Starting A Home Business

Written by admin on May 5th, 2011

Article by Joyce Leybag

I know plenty of people who have dreamed of starting a home business.. They thought with the current situation in the economy having a job is not an assurance you can make it through. So they are one of many who thought of starting a home business. However it is sad because not many people know how to go about starting a home business. Nothing comes the easy way most especially if know nothing about it. The same thing goes in starting a home business. There are some essential things that you have to know in order for it to work out. 1. You have the luxury of setting your own hours and work when you want, but that does not mean you should work whenever you feel like it. Set your working hours and make sure that you abide by them and for sure starting a home business will be a breeze for you. If you are serious about starting a home based business then you must know that it is not just a hobby, it is something more than that especially if you do not have a full time job. In starting a home based business always keep in mind that you must treat your business as a business. 2. When starting a home business you should know that you would have to devote a lot of time and in some cases funds are needed to make your home business work. You are going to have to treat your business like a business and spend money to promote it before it will succeed. The main difference between a typical business and starting a home business is that you obtain all the reward for yourself. 3. Continuously learning is also required in starting a home business. You would have to constantly find new ways to improve you business and make it successful. One way of doing this is by being in touch with those who have already started their own home based business and are already a success in their chosen field. These people more often than not are willing to help you because someone helped them when they were starting a home business of their own. 4. Being focused is also needed in starting a home business. In order for it to be successful you have to choose a business and stay with it, do not hop around with various opportunities. You are not going to come across a business that became successful immediately, so give an opportunity time. You will waste a lot of time and money trying to look for quick success, so stay with an opportunity that you think is good and give it time to grow.

Everyone have their own reasons and motivations for starting a home business, but whatever these reasons are does not matter. What matters is that you are committed to it and that you are continuously working to make it happen.

How Others Will See Your Home Business Seriously

Written by admin on May 1st, 2011

Article by Jack Funderburk

Operating real home based businesses from your home can be the most efficient means of running a small business or, of course, it could be a most inefficient method. From my twenty years experience the difference lies in your own perception and projection.

How do you view your business? Are you a little unsure this is the right approach? Do you really recognize this is the business that will now generate all your income. This significance you place on the efficient management of your business will then project to others in your home and those who visit your office. Am I really serious about operating my real home based businesses or is this more like a hobby.

Some years ago at a writers conference, Dennis Hensley, one of the speakers, told a story about working from home with a humorous illustration: I asked Sally (one of the well known and successful writers at this conference) how she deals with this issue of working at home. I explained to her there are times I just don’t feel like working and I don’t feel as though I’m really at work. She then told me she understood this and it was a problem for her early on but now she explained, “I learned that I must treat my position just as if I were not at home” She went on to explain that she does this by getting up early and making herself up real nice, right down to her choice of an exquisite perfume. She explained further, “I choose one of my prettiest dresses and put on my high heels and when I walk down the hall to my office, I know why I’m there and I get right at it.” Several months later I met Sally again and she asked me, “How are you doing working out of your home?” I then thanked her again for the advice she had given me about the self perception we must maintain when operating from our homes. I said, I’m just having a problem walking in those high heels.”

Our own perception of how important our work is will be evidenced by how efficiently we work from the home. Am I building real home based businesses or just playing games?

You must recognize the importance of scheduling your time and accomplishing everything you have purposed for the day. When you do this, your family members or visitors to your office will tend to do the same.

If you allow household interruptions to throw the day out of whack then those around you will be colluding with you to do just that! You daily actions will give value and communicate to others that you are operating a real home based business. You’re the one who will be communicating the importance of your time to others who come into your office setting.

This is not to say that one must be real “hard lined” about this and not allow your daughter to come in to show you a great picture she has just completed. It does, though, mean she will know this is something that is okay to do from time to time, (when it is a really special picture) but generally she will realize that Mommy or Daddy are at the office now and it is off limits for the most part.

Your family must work out how all this will play out on a daily basis but the idea that will prevail is “Daddy or Mommy is not home right now he is at work”.”

I now have grandchildren around the house and even at 30 months they understand this. Again, I always stop and have him sit on my lap when he does come in but he knows it’s special when he comes.

Real Home Based Businesses Require Focus

Don’t get distracted by the side issues that may seem at the moment to be urgent. It all happens too easily to the home based business person. You really need to purpose in your own mind and heart that you are totally committed to making this new lifestyle work -I’m working from home to generate a significant income and never going back to the corporate world. But don’t waver between the two arenas – the old corporate world and the new home business environment.

Be totally committed to building your real home based businesses. The fact you have decided to work out of your home should have no bearing on your potential or your ability to succeed. But it does require that you see it as it really is – a business you are willing to stay totally focused in to generate the income and freedom you want so you can be all you can be.

Building your real home based businesses to the point that you are building a significant income will ultimately become the evidence that you were serious about starting and building your own real home based businesses.

Corporate ERP Selection: International Business Aspects

Written by admin on April 27th, 2011

Article by Andrew Karasev

If your organization is engaged in international business and has or plan to acquire subsidiaries in South America, Asia or Europe, and you are currently in research on future ERP for the whole corporation, we recommend you several aspects to consider. This small publication is intended to IT managers as well as decision makers from your accounting and finance departments:

1. ERP in Headquarters, assuming USA or Canada. Typically this is not a question, but rather existing precondition. If you are going into international business, your company is already established in the homeland. Let’s assume you are mid-size organization and deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics or eEnterprise, and this application covers required business logic: Inventory and Warehouse management, Manufacturing, Logistics, Shipping and Receiving, Sales, Purchasing, Fixed Assets, etc. It is natural to come out with the idea on implementing Dynamics GP overseas, why not? If required, we could translate several screens and reports into Brazilian Portuguese, for example and off you go?.. Unfortunately international business realities are more complex and you should think about localization for your subsidiary basing country, let’s say Brazil

2. ERP Localization. Accounting application localization should be understood in two parts. First, it should be translated into local language. Of course, you do not like to reinvent the bicycle and translate Dynamics GP from English to Portuguese at your own expense, you would like to know if this already done. Unfortunately the answer is no – Dynamics GP is not marketed in such country as Brazil by Microsoft, instead Microsoft Business Solutions Brazil recommends Dynamics AX Axapta or NAV Navision. Second aspect of ERP localization is local tax code and government reporting compliance. In Brazil, to give you few examples, you will have to enforce sales invoice logic to support sequential factura numbers, plus tax code is very complex, where municipalities have their tax authority – this makes tax add-on required. It is unlikely that you will be able to do tax calculation add-on on your own

3. Consider Top ERP Brands, localized for your intended country. In the case of Brazil, you may think of Axapta to be too complex for implementation and integration with Great Plains in US. It is common when your overseas subsidiary is smaller than your headquarters facilities. If you have Great Plains in USA, we recommend you to consider SAP Business One in Brazil, as it is totally translated and tax compliant with Brazilian legislation

Casino Business Opportunity

Written by admin on April 26th, 2011

Article by Randy Wilson

Casino Business OpportunityKnowing that many American’s travel to Atlantic City and Las Vegas to visit casinos can make you wonder how you can take the experience and profit from it. There is a new and growing world in the casino business opportunities field. It can be online or on location. It is completely up to you. There are really two main options to owning a casino business. One is to purchase a casino business for sale such as an online casino. More and more people are gambling online. A start up of this business can run from less than 0 to over ,000. It is all dependent on who you want to run it. There are many franchises with a casino business plan already laid out for you. There are also pre-built poker and casino rooms that can start your online casino business. Either way you will be set up with a web site and given all the tools you will need to succeed. However, you will be responsible for all marketing of your web site. Some franchise’s offer you proven guidelines to help you market, and others don’t. To market on the internet costs money, and the more money you put out the more hits on your web site. This is truly a home business. You will make money 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many online casino business opportunities make 75% to 85% of the monthly deposits of your customers. Your good marketing can make this a very lucrative business. There is also another option, and that is to start a casino business opportunity that caters to employers, corporations, non-profit and civic clubs. It is a growing business that more people are using for fun and profit. You go to a location and create the atmosphere of a real casino. Many are willing to pay to have this outlet for their employees or as fund-raisers.Before going out and purchasing cards, roulette wheels and tables, you should create a casino business plan. This will help you discover if you will need a license to operate the business, and what locations you cannot operate. But first call or log on to your local and state government web site, and ask about regulations and requirements for your casino business opportunity. Once you have that information, go to your local Small Business Administration office or log on to their web site. You will find asample business plan and other forms you will need, mentors, financing information, and other options to help you get your casino business opportunity started. While working on your casino business plan, start pricing your equipment, and looking for employees. You may be able to contact a local temporary employee service for employees when you are first starting, but you may just want to explain to the employee that they are paid per event. This is an important decision and needs to be decided early on in the venture. Now that your casino business plan is ready, start looking for financing. You can contact private individuals, banks, and the Small Business Administration. Prepare a proposal explaining your casino business opportunity and business plan. You may be turned away and turned down. Be persistent, you will get financing.Once you have the financing start advertising your business and purchase your equipment. Get your employees ready to start working. You can send out fliers to corporations explaining your service, and focus on the use of it during conferences to relax and entertain the employers.Contact Hotels and events facilities to sell your casino business opportunity as well. Many times the facility is required to offer entertainment to conference attendees. This will work in your favor and help you get clients. Also, let local non-profit organizations know about the opportunity to use your service as a fund-raiser. You can create an exquisite casino business opportunity that is fun and different to help them raise money for their charity or cause. Any of these options or all of them can keep your casino business opportunity busy.Review your casino business plan annually and make changes as necessary. You also want to subscribe to newsletters and periodicals in the industry to keep abreast of the industry trends. Read books and visit web sites. Most of all, watch your competition. This is truly a great way to make money and have fun at the same time.

Starting A Home Business – A Few Pointers

Written by admin on April 25th, 2011

Article by Kate Wilber

If we look at the internet today and search for “home business” or home based business opportunities, the mother of all search engines throws up millions of results. Almost all of these opportunities out there could be fairly good, a few excellent and some could be fraudulent as bad pennies turn out in every industry.

However, selecting a home business is not as easy as most of these websites claim it to be. There are a few considerations that would need great pondering before you embark on a home business:

a.Starting a home business is not free as most of these claims state that starting a home business is free, be a little wary. Although you may not be paying upfront fee to get business opportunities here, you would always end up buying a computer, getting an internet connection and spending invaluable time in looking for the right business to start off with. This is an investment and there is nothing called a “free lunch” is there?

b.While the home business you intend to start suits your skills and appears to be lucrative, you will need to have a rough business plan before you begin as in any traditional business. Obviously, you will not want to float through in life financially.

c.Although any home business if taken up seriously can bring you good results, the objective of your home business should be to achieve financial freedom for yourself. While this requires a lot of planning and proper blue print to success, it is not rocket science.

d. A lot of home business opportunities are available to choose from. Even if you choose a home business that seems to be most interesting and suits your skill-set, working from home can be a glitch. Although it appears that working from home gives you a lot of options to use your time with and spending time with your family, certain complacency would set in with time. Being self-disciplined is the key to having a successful homebusiness.

e. It could take some time to set up your home business. Like any other business, a home business also has a lead time before which it can begin to generate income for you. The time can be longer if you intend to pursue part time. You will need to be patient and work at it for a few weeks before you can see tangible results. Perseverance and tenacity are the keys to go through such times. Make sure that you have a few dollars tucked away to get you through this lead time before you launch your home business.

The above points are generic to any home based business and once you understand these, you would need to add to this list depending on the home business you opt for. You could begin part-time and go on to take the home business seriously enough to make it full time. And, if you have just been axed or looking for a new job, there is no better time to opt for a brand new home business.

New Jersey, Texas Firms Take Top Prize as National Contractors of the Year; Small Businesses, Business Leaders and Government Officials Honored

Written by admin on April 24th, 2011

Article by Kari Larson

May 25, 2010 — A small-business contractor from New Jersey and another from Texas were named the National Prime Contractor of the Year and National Subcontractor of the Year, respectively, during a breakfast ceremony held this morning by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The event, sponsored by Raytheon, was part of National Small Business Week 2010, held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The Small Business Prime Contractor and Small Business Subcontractor of theYear awards honor small businesses that have provided the government and private sector with outstanding goods and services, either as prime contractors or as subcontractors.

This year’s winners are:

* Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year: Anne C. O’Brien, president of Kalimex Inc., of Ocean View, N.J. This woman-owned, 8[a]-certified, small disadvantaged construction company boasts 14 years of successful project experience, plus more than million in annual sales revenues. In one of those projects, Kalimex reopened the stairs to the crown in the Statue of Liberty for the first time since 9/11, ensuring visitors’ safe ascent up the famous double-helix stairway to the observation level in the statue’s crown. The National Park Service described Kalimex’s work on the Statue of Liberty as “sleek, elegant and magnificent.” Another notable project for Kalimex Inc. includes exterior building renovation and masonry repairs on the Edgar Allan Poe House, located in Philadelphia, Penn., for the National Park Service; and

* Small Business Subcontractor of the Year: W.T. Gardner, founder and CEO of Savage Precision Fabrication Inc., of Wylie, Tex. Gardner founded Savage, a veteran-owned and Native American-owned firm, with ,000 worth of tools. The company manufactures precision machine and sheet metal fabrication components — including mechanical assemblies made of aluminum, titanium, copper, stainless steel and plastics — to meet design specifications, and support the aerospace, military, defense and high-tech industries. It develops in-house processes — such as heat treating, aging, Tungsten Inert Gas [TIG] and Metal Inert Gas [MIG] — that are usually outsourced by a small business. The company has 38 employees, .4 million in annual sales in 2008, and is a preferred manufacturer in the aerospace and defense industry.

“Today, we celebrate the contributions of the outstanding business leaders, government officials and small businesses whose inspiring work in the federal contracting arena are creating jobs and helping lead economic recovery,” said SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills [pictured].

“Contracting with small businesses is a win-win for both the government and small businesses,” Mills noted. “The government gets access to the most innovative companies, and small businesses get the oxygen they need to grow and take their businesses to the next level.

“That’s why it’s so important that more than billion in federal contracts have already been awarded to small businesses under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”

Small-business owners, corporate leaders, government officials and volunteers from across the country are in Washington, D.C., for the three-day conference, to be honored during five major award events for their achievements as America’s top entrepreneurs. The contracting awards recognize businesses and organizations for their commitment to providing contracting and subcontracting opportunities to small, women-owned and small disadvantaged businesses.

Other federal contracting awards included:

Frances Perkins Vanguard Award: Honoring government and industry for excellence in the use of women-owned small businesses as prime contractors and subcontractors.

The recipients are:

* Jim Cuff, senior vice president, Science Applications International Corporation [SAIC], of McLean, Va. [Industry Buying Activity];

* Kevin Boshears, director, Office of Small Disadvantaged Business Utilization, Department of Homeland Security, of Washington, D.C. [Federal Buying Activity]; and

* Bennie Boren, acquisition supervisor/small-business specialist, Public Works Department Gulfport, NAVFAC Southeast, of Gulfport, Miss. [Federal Procurement Official].

Gold Star Award: Recognizing the exemplary performance of federal agencies and their dedicated personnel who carry out the aggressive goals and strategic initiatives that help ensure a role for small business in the federal marketplace.

The recipient is:

* Judith P. Croxton, director of business operations, Shaw Air Force Base-20th Contracting Squadron, of Shaw AFB, S.C.

Surety Bond Award: Honoring the 16 participating surety companies and bond producers for the support they provide to small businesses who need help securing bid, payment and performance bonds.

Two prominent national surety trade associations accepted the awards on their behalf. They are:

* Ms. Lynn Schubert, president, The Surety & Fidelity Association of America; and

* Mr. Mark H. McCallum, CEO, the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence: Recognizing large prime contractors that have excelled in their use of small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors.

The recipients are:

* Richard A. Heltzel, president, Healy Tibbitts Builders Inc., of Aiea, Hawaii [Construction Category];

* Amber Janey, small business liaison officer, Rockwell Collins, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa [Manufacturing Category]; and

* Keith Joy, director of small business programs, UT-Battelle LLC/Oak Ridge National Laboratory [ORNL], of Oak Ridge, Tenn. [Research & Development Category].

The 2010 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence-Research & Development is one of SBA’s top honors. Administrator Mills praised the Department of Energy’s ORNL’s “hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to [its] community” while presenting the award to Keith Joy, director of small business programs at ORNL.

Joy tasked his office with “aggressive goals” to meet the requirements of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award. In 2010, he and his staff encouraged strong performance via an internal awards program, meetings between contractors and small businesses, and extensive outreach programs to maximize the impact of ORNL’s small business programs. Joy noted that he was “very proud, humbled, and appreciative” to receive this honor on behalf of his team at ORNL.

“The President recognizes that small businesses are the building blocks of our economy,” said Bill Valdez, acting director of the Department of Energy’s Office of Economic Impact and Diversity. “Our office’s mission is to support the innovation and growth of small businesses, and we absolutely must continue to honor their hard work.”

Small Business Week featured a series of forums on innovation, exporting and social media, designed to help entrepreneurs with current, real-world issues that impact their businesses. There was also a town hall forum to discuss small-business concerns.

It is a business opportunity that provides diverse fields in which you can work on your own terms. The application of efficient marketing strategies plays an important role in making online businesses successful. Remember to keep that in mind while ascertaining long term goals.

Before entering into a business opportunity, opt for a market survey to gain knowledge of how it works and whether it’s an exceptional business opportunity. Ask yourself the question “will this business opportunity work or not?” You need to gain knowledge of the working strategies in the market so that you can work on your own which will suit best for you. Your sponsor (if they’re the helpful variety) should have no problem helping you with any aspect of the business opportunity.

Strategies in Business play a key role in the upbringing of the business. You need to work hard in preparing strategies for your business opportunity so that you can manage it accordingly in the market.
